Musik Maschine
Performance at IRCAM, Paris. At the heart of this project is an innovative music robot that brings traditional instruments to life through an intuitive interface, much like a drum machine. This machine allows users to manipulate and combine rhythms, harmonies, and electronic music elements in a seamless and creative way. Visitors can easily interact with the system to create their own compositions, which can be saved as patterns, building an ever-growing archive of musical ideas.
The project connects instruments such as the zither, hammered dulcimer, and pipe with contemporary electronic music. By pairing the unique sound characteristics of these nearly forgotten regional instruments with new and unconventional playing techniques, it creates an immersive, interactive musical experience that bridges the gap between past and present.
I was invited by Astrid Drechsler, one of the project developers, to perform and showcase this music robot alongside other artists at IRCAM during the Audio Conference in Paris. Our presentation highlighted how this innovative approach to music can foster creativity while exploring the intersection of tradition and technology.
